We had a GREAT question from @Maha Baskaran come in early this morning.

"We are requesting your confirmation on whether the Dayforce APIs support the Managed Employee field.

Additionally, could you please let us know if there are any API fields available that return the following information:

  • Whether an employee is a manager or not
  • The total number of direct reports for a manager"

    Hi @Maha Baskaran  there is no API to specifically grab an employee's "managed reports."

    @Ted Fifield can confirm this.

    You can get an employee's manager using GET Employee Managers <link stripped through migration> and/or GET Employee Work Assignment Managers <link stripped through migration>.

    Hi @Maha Baskaran!

    @Frank Ruffolo is correct, we do not have a specific RESTful API to capture an employee's managed reports. Additionally, we do not support the Managed Employee field in the RESTful APIs.

    I would recommend leveraging the GET Employee Managers and/or GET Employee Work Assignment Managers endpoints, as Frank suggested.

    @Hanu Indrakanti  you can direct the customer to the Dayforce Developer Network <link stripped through migration> . All of the available Dayforce Open APIs can be found there. The support resource may have been referencing the Data and Analytics API <link stripped through migration>, that would be used to pull a Manager report with list of managers and how many directs. The only other option would be to query the database.

    @Ted Fifield @Frank Ruffolo  @Brenda Sutton One of customers have been informed by Dayforce Customer support that Managed Employee APIs are indeed now available with Dayforce which prompted us to ask this question. If you think they have been misinformed, can I include one of you into that discussion to let them know about this.

    Nonetheless, without this API, is there a way to know if an employee is a manager and the number of subordinates they have?

    @Brenda Sutton The documentation in the DDN mentions about ManagedEmployees inside /Employees/XRefCode which could probably led to that assumption. It also has another attribute "HasManagedEmployee" : boolean to indicate if the employee is a manager.

    But ManagedEmployees is not being returned in the Employees/XRefCode API

    @Hanu Indrakanti , that is correct because it is not currently supported in the Employee API (there is a current request already sitting with the Product team for this). It is however, supported in the Bulk Employee API.
